Russian (русский язык) is an East Slavic language, which is official in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as being widely spoken throughout Eastern Europe, the Baltic states, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Russian belongs to the family of Indo-European languages, one of the four living members of the East Slavic languages, and part of the larger Balto-Slavic branch.

It is the most widely spoken of the Slavic languages and the largest native language in Europe, with 144 million speakers in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Russian is the eighth most spoken language in the world by number of native speakers and the seventh by total number of speakers.

Although one academic hour is slightly more expensive than a group lesson, money is spent more effectively, and in the long run, private lessons will cost you less. If you study individually, you will need less classes to achieve the desired result than you would in a group setting. 

If you have no prior knowledge of Russian, start with the beginner's level A1.

24 classes (48 academic hours) will cost you from 299 euros (incl. VAT), if the classes are conducted in an open group setting at the Baltic Media Language Training Centre on Dzirnavu iela 57A, Riga. The price of individual learning is from 20.00 EUR + VAT (21%) per one academic hour (45 min.). One standard lesson usually lasts 1.5 h (2 x 45 min.).
